An Extra Feature: Fight Back For Cole!

Cole

Here’s our extra feature for this week, in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month: Fight Back for Cole!

11-year-old Colton Brandenburg (“Cole”) was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in December of 2007, miraculously went into remission in January of 2008.  In August of 2010, Cole relapsed and has had a constant fight with ALL since that time.  He has had several surgeries, brutal chemotherapy treatments and numerous complications due to also being diagnosed with Pseudo Tumor Cerebri (pressure buildup in the spinal cord).  He has also lost most of his peripheral vision and the doctors are unsure as to whether or not that will be reversible.

Amazingly, through it all, Cole has managed to remain positive and caring, even taking the time to organize events to help others that are in need.  Last year, Cole collected 241 coats for his local Salvation Army’s Coats for Kids drive – the largest collection they had ever had – and he also collected hundreds of books for children in the hospital!  This year, while still undergoing treatment himself, he ran a Relay for Life and is currently planning a Christmas Toy Drive for other children fighting cancer in local hospitals!

To say he is an inspiration is an understatement.  He always maintains a great attitude and adorable sense of humor.  He even wants to be a Flight For Life helicopter pilot when he grows up.  Simply amazing!

Right now, Cole is in the hospital fighting off fever and infection and receiving blood and platelet transfusions, due to his weak immune system.  This is never an easy time for any child or family and Cole and his parents could use extra prayers and happy thoughts right now!

Please take the time to visit Cole’s Facebook Page and his websites, Fight Back for Cole and CaringBridge, to learn more about Cole and his progress and to see how you can help with Cole’s charitable work.  You can also find Cole’s address on our Operation Smile list if you would like to send him a card or gift!

Help us keep spreading the word about Cole and all of our feature kids!

**If you know a child or charity that would like to be featured, please let us know at mikeyandzoe@comcast.net or on our Facebook page**

Hi Cole, My name is Liz and I am praying really hard for you. Please tell your mom and dad to watch “Forks over Knives” with you. It is on Netflix. I hope you can see it. I think you will all be excited about what they have to say. Love ya!
