Another Idea From Zoe’s Corner

This weekend, September 7-9, over 500 Old Navy stores will be participating in a fundraiser for Alex’s Lemonade Stand, a fantastic organization that began as one little girl with neuroblastoma raising money for cancer research and has since exploded into a huge contributor in the fight against childhood cancer.  Some of the stores will be hosting their own lemonade stands and some will be selling paper lemons to raise money for children with cancer.

What a fantastic and easy way to make a difference in the life of a child battling cancer!  And what better time to do it than during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month?!

So, if you are out and about this weekend, please stop by your local Old Navy to grab a cup of lemonade or a paper lemon in support of Alex’s Lemonade Stand!  Every little contribution makes a huge difference!

Zoe’s Corner: Part 2 of the St. Jude’s Pals Program

A few weeks ago, we had a post about joining the St. Jude’s Pals Program, a free opportunity to partner with St. Jude’s to help brighten a sick child’s day.

We signed up for the program immediately and last week we got our first package in the mail.

Yeah! Our first package!

This month, the gift to send back is a cute magnetic frame for a St. Jude’s teen to use with the picture they will receive at the upcoming prom-style formal dance being held in their honor!

Love the Havana Nights theme

We signed the enclosed form so whomever receives our gift will know we are thinking about them and wishing them the best!  Then we placed it back in the pre-paid envelope and quickly mailed it back so St. Jude’s would have it in time for the formal!

All set to mail back!

It seems like a small effort but I’m sure if enough people join this program, all of the kids receiving treatment at St. Jude’s will realize that there are others out there thinking of them!

And, other than a few moments of your time, it is ABSOLUTELY free, allowing you to be able to be an active participant, regardless of whether you are also able to help financially at this time.  You can also include your email address so you get pictures of the kids the gifts are going to!

Won’t you take the time to join this special program and help make a difference in the life of a sick child?  Visit stjude.org today for more information on the Pals Program!

Zoe’s Corner Is Back With Another Great Idea!

Here’s another great way to help a terrific cause!  It’s the St. Jude Pal program!

It’s free to sign up and St. Jude’s will send you a package every other month with little ways to create special notes and gifts for the children receiving treatment there.  Then you send back your cheery thoughts and gifts and they are distributed to the boys, girls and families at St. Jude’s.

You will also receive email updates with information and photos of the kids receiving your gifts so you can share in the joy that you are bringing!

Please follow the link at the top or the bottom of this page and join us in becoming a member of this fantastic program.  This is a great opportunity for those of you who have been so wonderful in assisting us with our own Operation Smile efforts!  All it takes is a little time and the cost of postage to make a sick child’s day!

Visit the St. Jude website to sign up today!

Another Idea From Zoe’s Corner + Featured Charity: Alex’s Lemonade Stand!

Attention Parents! Here’s another way to have free fun with your children while helping to make a contribution to a great charity!

This Saturday, February 4th, from 12-2 pm, you can go to your local ToysRUs store and build a free LEGO Friends Lemonade Stand to take home as part of your child’s personal LEGO collection.

What a Fun Edition to Your Own Lego Collection!

For each stand built, the LEGO Group will donate $1 (up to $10,000) to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), a great organization helping in the fight against childhood cancer.

ALSF was founded by Alexandra “Alex” Scott, a 4-year-old girl who was diagnosed with childhood cancer.  When she passed away at the age of 8, her lemonade stand fundraisers (and those by others inspired by her determination) had already raised more than $1 million for cancer research!  Since 2005, her parents have carried on with Alex’s fundraising efforts in memory of their brave and amazing daughter while countless others around the nation continue to lend their support to this worthy cause.

So, this weekend, head on over to ToysRUs and help support ALSF by making your own lemonade stand.  It’s charity and fun mixed into one day!  For more information about this event, please visit www.alexslemonadestand.org.

This Week’s Feature: Kids Over Kancer!

This week’s featured charity is Kids Over Kancer (K.O.K)!  K.O.K. was founded in October of this year by 20-year-old Gabriela Lopez of Miami, Florida.  She was inspired to start this new charity in honor of little Mackenzie Gonzalez, a brave cancer warrior who earned her angel wings one year ago.

A direct goal of Kids Over Kancer is to raise awareness for those fighting childhood cancer.  In addition to advocating on behalf of the cancer patients, K.O.K. also works to bring smiles and hope to the children and their families.

As K.O.K. is a new charity, currently in the process of obtaining its 501(c)(3) status, they need your help!  Please take the time to visit their Facebook and Squidoo pages and learn more about the individual children they are promoting and what you can do to help.  You can also follow this organization on Twitter!

The more information the world has, the closer we come to funding and finding a cure for childhood cancer!  Less than 2% of all cancer funding goes to this area and that is unacceptable!  Help Kids Over Kancer spread the word today!

This Week’s Feature: Butterflies for Brandi

Butterflies for Brandi

We have mentioned Butterflies for Brandi in the past as a group that helps sick children, but this week we wanted to give a little more detail about the wonderful work they are doing in the Memphis area, especially for the families of the sick children being treated at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The Butterflies for Brandi charity was founded by the family of little Brandi who lost her fight with cancer in 2002.   They were so inspired and grateful for the people who surrounded them with support during that time that they wanted to honor sweet Brandi’s memory by doing the same for others that are going through similar situations.

What started as a way to deliver toys and gifts to the children fighting cancer at St. Jude quickly became a ministry for the families of those sick children.  Many of the families are staying nearby in either the Ronald McDonald House or Target House and have very little resources available to them.  Leading the ministry is Rena Mangum.  With each visit to St. Jude or one of the housing locations, she meets new families in need and she does everything she can to get donations of even the simplest household items to them while they endure the pain of having a critically ill child.

Please take the time to visit the Butterflies for Brandi Facebook page to see how you can help!  You can send donations of toiletries, toys, clothing, non-perishable food, etc., to Rena Mangum at 1764 Sixth Crompton Sq A, Memphis, TN 38134.  Everything will be personally delivered to the families in need.  You can also purchase a Butterflies for Brandi bracelet as part of their fundraising efforts (wristbands are $5.00 and custom-made paracord bracelets are $10.00).

Help us keep spreading the word about Butterflies for Brandi and all of our feature kids and charities!

**If you know a child or charity that would like to be featured, please let us know at mikeyandzoe@comcast.net or on our Facebook page**
