Thank You

thank youWe just wanted to say THANK YOU again to all of our friends who sent cards out for our Operation Smile Valentine’s Day!  We heard from many of the families personally, saying how much the children enjoyed receiving their cards and gifts.  We can’t do what we do without the support of people like you.  So, THANK YOU for helping us make children smile!!!  We appreciate your kindness as much as the children do!

**We look forward to posting a new list in the very near future**

National Pancake Day at IHOP

ihopToday is National Pancake Day at IHOP.  Each guest who comes to dine at IHOP will receive a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes and all IHOP asks for in return is that you consider giving a donation to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals or another designated local charity*.

What a great chance to enjoy some yummy pancakes and to give the money that you would have spent on breakfast, lunch or dinner to a wonderful cause!

Since beginning National Pancake Day in 2006, IHOP has been able to collect over $10 million to numerous charitable entities.

So, if you are in the mood for dining out today, please consider making IHOP your choice and help them continue raising money to help sick children around the world! (Click on link above for more information)

*a donation is not required to receive free pancakes

Zoe’s Corner: Part 2 of the St. Jude’s Pals Program

A few weeks ago, we had a post about joining the St. Jude’s Pals Program, a free opportunity to partner with St. Jude’s to help brighten a sick child’s day.

We signed up for the program immediately and last week we got our first package in the mail.

Yeah! Our first package!

This month, the gift to send back is a cute magnetic frame for a St. Jude’s teen to use with the picture they will receive at the upcoming prom-style formal dance being held in their honor!

Love the Havana Nights theme

We signed the enclosed form so whomever receives our gift will know we are thinking about them and wishing them the best!  Then we placed it back in the pre-paid envelope and quickly mailed it back so St. Jude’s would have it in time for the formal!

All set to mail back!

It seems like a small effort but I’m sure if enough people join this program, all of the kids receiving treatment at St. Jude’s will realize that there are others out there thinking of them!

And, other than a few moments of your time, it is ABSOLUTELY free, allowing you to be able to be an active participant, regardless of whether you are also able to help financially at this time.  You can also include your email address so you get pictures of the kids the gifts are going to!

Won’t you take the time to join this special program and help make a difference in the life of a sick child?  Visit stjude.org today for more information on the Pals Program!

Thanks For Sharing and Caring

Mikey’s Helping Place would like to recognize one of our supporters, Mrs. Ricki Averbach.

In honor of her recent birthday, she asked that friends and family donate to charity rather than give her gifts.  In response to her birthday request, several family members chose to donate to MHP’s “sharing and caring” fund which allows us to help purchase items for local charitable organizations.

We greatly admire the selflessness of Ricki in encouraging others to give to various charities and we truly appreciate the generosity shown to us by her family.  All donations received in her name will be going to support the Ronald McDonald House of Tallahassee and the numerous deserving families the RMDH helps on a daily basis.

Many thanks to Ricki and her family for replenishing our fund and making our donation of gifts possible!

new games and toys for the newest Family Room of the Ronald McDonald House of Tallahassee!

Another Idea From Zoe’s Corner + Featured Charity: Alex’s Lemonade Stand!

Attention Parents! Here’s another way to have free fun with your children while helping to make a contribution to a great charity!

This Saturday, February 4th, from 12-2 pm, you can go to your local ToysRUs store and build a free LEGO Friends Lemonade Stand to take home as part of your child’s personal LEGO collection.

What a Fun Edition to Your Own Lego Collection!

For each stand built, the LEGO Group will donate $1 (up to $10,000) to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), a great organization helping in the fight against childhood cancer.

ALSF was founded by Alexandra “Alex” Scott, a 4-year-old girl who was diagnosed with childhood cancer.  When she passed away at the age of 8, her lemonade stand fundraisers (and those by others inspired by her determination) had already raised more than $1 million for cancer research!  Since 2005, her parents have carried on with Alex’s fundraising efforts in memory of their brave and amazing daughter while countless others around the nation continue to lend their support to this worthy cause.

So, this weekend, head on over to ToysRUs and help support ALSF by making your own lemonade stand.  It’s charity and fun mixed into one day!  For more information about this event, please visit www.alexslemonadestand.org.
