Our Raffle to raise funds for the NICU Milk Warmer Project is officially over and we have 3 lucky winners to announce!  Before we share the winners, we would like to once again thank EVERYONE who purchased tickets and shared the information with their friends!  We couldn’t do anything without the support of our friends and family and we truly appreciate each and every one of you!  We raised a total of $188 and we can’t wait to deliver the check later on this week!

Without further ado, the winners (chosen at random via our very scientific internet slot machine) are:

ABC Busy Bee Cake

Baby Boy Bear Cake

Baby Sub Sandwich

Congratulations ladies; we will get you those prizes quickly!  Thank you again to everyone involved with this project.

Less Than One Week Left!

Our raffle to raise money for the babies in the NICU at TMH is still running through this Saturday!  We have had several generous friends buy tickets for this great cause, but we could still use your help!  $1 is all it takes – you’d be surprised how quickly those dollars add up!  And, if you don’t know someone who could use the prize should you win it, you can choose to donate the cake to a family at the NICU!  It’s another wonderful way to contribute!

Please take the time to read the previous blogs about the Milk Warmer Project and the diaper cake raffle for the NICU right now and help us donate as much as we can to the babies that need it most!

Help Us Help Premature Babies and You Could Win a Prize!

Last year, we held a toy drive for the Pediatric Unit of Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (TMH) in honor of Mikey’s 6th birthday.  Thanks to the generosity of so many of our supporters, we were able to give $800 worth of toys to the children there!

this is only about half of the bags we made!

Although it hardly seems possible, in just a few weeks, Mikey will be turning 7!  As part of his birthday celebration this year, we would like to be able to donate funds to the TMH NICU Milk Warmer Project by holding a raffle in its honor.  As this particular project is to support premature babies, we felt it would be very appropriate to give away two handmade diaper cakes as prizes for the raffle!

Baby Boy Bear Cake (includes diapers, receiving blanket, bottle, bear and pacifier holder)

ABC Busy Little Bee Cake (includes diapers, receiving blanket, bottle, manicure set and bee washcloth puppet)

Tickets for the raffle are $1 apiece and for each dollar spent, you will receive an entry to the raffle for the cake of your choice. (Be sure to specify which cake you prefer when buying the tickets!)  The more tickets you buy, the greater chance you have of winning a prize!  The raffle will run for two weeks (ending on Sept. 22nd) and the two grand prize winners will be chosen randomly from our pool of entries, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to the Milk Warmer Project.

If you aren’t in the greater Tallahassee area, but would still like a chance to win one of our prizes, donations can be made securely online via PayPal.  (You do not need a PayPal account to participate, just click on the link and you will see an option to “buy” without an account).  Even if you are only able to purchase 1 ticket, every little bit counts and every entry will be greatly appreciated by us and by the babies who will benefit from this donation.

For those of you who may not be able to donate financially at this time, we will also be hosting a FREE giveaway where you can earn entries for this smaller prize by simply sharing the raffle information found on this blog with your friends!

baby “sub sandwich” (includes baby socks, washcloth, blankets and diapers)

I am a firm believer that helping to spread the word about important charitable opportunities is just as important as giving a donation and we want to reward those efforts as well.  So, make sure to tell your friends and then leave a comment on the blog or on our Facebook page telling us that you shared the information and we will add your name to the giveaway drawing!

For more information on the TMH NICU Milk Warmer Project, please read our previous post on this worthwhile cause!  Any further questions regarding the raffle?  Feel free to contact us at mikeyandzoe@comcast.net!

Thanks to everyone who is willing to once again help us make a charitable contribution in honor of Mikey’s 7th birthday!  We know we can make a difference WITH YOUR HELP!!! 🙂

Featured Charity: TMH NICU Milk Warmer Project

Did you know that 1 in 10 babies born in the United States will be born prematurely?  That’s a startling fact and chances are that you or someone you know has been personally affected by the premature birth of a child.  That’s why having a great Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is so important to a hospital.  And, while having access to some of today’s most advanced medical technology is key, sometimes, it’s the “little” things that can make the difference.

Right now, the Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare Foundation is raising funds for their NICU Milk Warmer and Breast-Feeding Education Program which will provide top quality milk warmers for the NICU, as well as provide breast-feeding education for the parents and families of premature babies.  You may not realize it, but being able to warm milk to the precise temperature that is needed to provide the best nutrients available to premies is not as easy or as quick as it may sound.

Milk warmers provide gradual, controlled warming for each NICU baby’s feeding, which results in enhanced tolerance and, in turn, consumption of  much-needed additional calories.  These nutritional warmers ensure preservation of the immunological and nutritional properties of breast milk   and allow for consistent temperatures of the milk fed to critically ill babies in order to increase blood flow and oxygen delivery for faster weight gain and optimum recovery.  Isn’t that amazing?!

You can make a difference in hundreds of lives each year by donating funds to the NICU Milk Warmer Project, allowing TMH to purchase these much-needed items as well as provide new parents with the necessary information to help their premature babies grow and thrive, thus allowing for a quicker discharge from the NICU.

Any donations can be sent to the TMH Foundation, 1331 East Sixth Avenue, Tallahassee, FL 32303 or you can make a secure online donation by clicking on this link, selecting “other” as the gift designation and entering NICU Milk Warmers in the space provided.

Remember that any gift, no matter how big or how small the amount, can help save the life of a precious baby!  Won’t you lend a helping hand?  And, please, help us spread the word about this worthwhile cause!

For more information on how you can help, please contact Judi Taber, Annual Giving Officer, Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare Foundation, at (850) 431-5904 or Judi.Taber@tmh.org.

Zoe’s Corner: Part 2 of the St. Jude’s Pals Program

A few weeks ago, we had a post about joining the St. Jude’s Pals Program, a free opportunity to partner with St. Jude’s to help brighten a sick child’s day.

We signed up for the program immediately and last week we got our first package in the mail.

Yeah! Our first package!

This month, the gift to send back is a cute magnetic frame for a St. Jude’s teen to use with the picture they will receive at the upcoming prom-style formal dance being held in their honor!

Love the Havana Nights theme

We signed the enclosed form so whomever receives our gift will know we are thinking about them and wishing them the best!  Then we placed it back in the pre-paid envelope and quickly mailed it back so St. Jude’s would have it in time for the formal!

All set to mail back!

It seems like a small effort but I’m sure if enough people join this program, all of the kids receiving treatment at St. Jude’s will realize that there are others out there thinking of them!

And, other than a few moments of your time, it is ABSOLUTELY free, allowing you to be able to be an active participant, regardless of whether you are also able to help financially at this time.  You can also include your email address so you get pictures of the kids the gifts are going to!

Won’t you take the time to join this special program and help make a difference in the life of a sick child?  Visit stjude.org today for more information on the Pals Program!

**If you know of a free/inexpensive/easy way to help others or a specific charity, please let us know so we can spread the word!  We’re always on the lookout for new ways to help!**
