An Easter Idea From Zoe’s Corner

Be a shining star to a sick child

Be a shining star to a sick child

This year there will be many children hospitalized over the Easter holiday.  If you could help make their day a little bit brighter, wouldn’t you do it?

Right now, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is offering a free way to do just that!  All you have to do is go the St. Jude website (click on this link) and customize a virtual Easter egg with a special message for the patients there!  It only takes a few seconds of your time, but this small act can make a big difference in the life of a sick child and his/her family.

And, if you feel so compelled, there is also a link for donations.  St. Jude is a wonderful organization that saves so many lives each year and is the perfect place to donate to if you are looking to give a little more hope to the thousands of children diagnosed with cancer each year, many of whom would not be able to afford the necessary care without the facilities at St. jude

Won’t you join us in creating an egg and spreading a little holiday cheer?  And, pass on this information to others who might like to participate.  Together, we can make a difference!

**If you know of a free/inexpensive/easy way to help others or a specific charity, please let us know so we can spread the word!  We’re always on the lookout for new ways to help!**

Another Idea From Zoe’s Corner!

If you have a Facebook account, this is for you!  Right now, Hammermill Paper is offering to donate $1 to St. Jude for each new Facebook “like” and/or “share” they receive (up to $30,000), with an additional $5,000 added if they can reach 12,000 fans by December 31st.  Just click on the link above to like Hammermill and share this info with your friends and you are giving $2 to St. Jude!  So easy and at no cost to you!  Thank you, Hammermill, for promoting this worthy cause!

Zoe’s Corner: Part 2 of the St. Jude’s Pals Program

A few weeks ago, we had a post about joining the St. Jude’s Pals Program, a free opportunity to partner with St. Jude’s to help brighten a sick child’s day.

We signed up for the program immediately and last week we got our first package in the mail.

Yeah! Our first package!

This month, the gift to send back is a cute magnetic frame for a St. Jude’s teen to use with the picture they will receive at the upcoming prom-style formal dance being held in their honor!

Love the Havana Nights theme

We signed the enclosed form so whomever receives our gift will know we are thinking about them and wishing them the best!  Then we placed it back in the pre-paid envelope and quickly mailed it back so St. Jude’s would have it in time for the formal!

All set to mail back!

It seems like a small effort but I’m sure if enough people join this program, all of the kids receiving treatment at St. Jude’s will realize that there are others out there thinking of them!

And, other than a few moments of your time, it is ABSOLUTELY free, allowing you to be able to be an active participant, regardless of whether you are also able to help financially at this time.  You can also include your email address so you get pictures of the kids the gifts are going to!

Won’t you take the time to join this special program and help make a difference in the life of a sick child?  Visit today for more information on the Pals Program!

Zoe’s Corner Is Back With Another Great Idea!

Here’s another great way to help a terrific cause!  It’s the St. Jude Pal program!

It’s free to sign up and St. Jude’s will send you a package every other month with little ways to create special notes and gifts for the children receiving treatment there.  Then you send back your cheery thoughts and gifts and they are distributed to the boys, girls and families at St. Jude’s.

You will also receive email updates with information and photos of the kids receiving your gifts so you can share in the joy that you are bringing!

Please follow the link at the top or the bottom of this page and join us in becoming a member of this fantastic program.  This is a great opportunity for those of you who have been so wonderful in assisting us with our own Operation Smile efforts!  All it takes is a little time and the cost of postage to make a sick child’s day!

Visit the St. Jude website to sign up today!

This Week’s Feature: Cards for Kids

This week, we wanted to share with you a special charity called, “Cards for Kids”. This charity was started by Emersyn Harris, a sweet young lady who spends her free time making cards and gift bags for sick children.  She was inspired to do this by watching the Ellen Show and it is her dream to one day meet Ellen!

Emersyn and one of her beautiful handmade cards

You can see all of Emersyn’s cards and charitable works, including her ongoing collection of Silly Socks for the sick children at St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, on her Facebook Page and her blog  She updates her Facebook Page each day so that anyone who follows her can know if there is a child that could use extra thoughts and prayers, as well as cards.  We have learned about several of our Operation Smile children from Emersyn!

You can help Emersyn bring a smile to a child by sending her craft supplies, silly socks, backpacks, or other little items for her charitable gifts.  She is such an inspiration, with amazing artistic talents and a heart of gold.   Much like her idol, Ellen, we should all take note of how every small act of kindness can be multiplied when others follow suit!

To learn what items Emersyn needs and where to send them, you can contact her mother at  Please help us spread the word about Emersyn by liking her Facebook Page and leaving a note on the Ellen Website  stating how much Emersyn would love to meet her!

This Week’s Feature: Butterflies for Brandi

Butterflies for Brandi

We have mentioned Butterflies for Brandi in the past as a group that helps sick children, but this week we wanted to give a little more detail about the wonderful work they are doing in the Memphis area, especially for the families of the sick children being treated at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The Butterflies for Brandi charity was founded by the family of little Brandi who lost her fight with cancer in 2002.   They were so inspired and grateful for the people who surrounded them with support during that time that they wanted to honor sweet Brandi’s memory by doing the same for others that are going through similar situations.

What started as a way to deliver toys and gifts to the children fighting cancer at St. Jude quickly became a ministry for the families of those sick children.  Many of the families are staying nearby in either the Ronald McDonald House or Target House and have very little resources available to them.  Leading the ministry is Rena Mangum.  With each visit to St. Jude or one of the housing locations, she meets new families in need and she does everything she can to get donations of even the simplest household items to them while they endure the pain of having a critically ill child.

Please take the time to visit the Butterflies for Brandi Facebook page to see how you can help!  You can send donations of toiletries, toys, clothing, non-perishable food, etc., to Rena Mangum at 1764 Sixth Crompton Sq A, Memphis, TN 38134.  Everything will be personally delivered to the families in need.  You can also purchase a Butterflies for Brandi bracelet as part of their fundraising efforts (wristbands are $5.00 and custom-made paracord bracelets are $10.00).

Help us keep spreading the word about Butterflies for Brandi and all of our feature kids and charities!

Zoe’s Corner: Help Sick Children Just By Dining Out

How many of you will be hungry next Monday, September 26th?  Will you be going out to eat for lunch or dinner?  If so, think about heading over to your neighborhood Chili’s.  On “The Big Day” Chili’s will be donating all of their profits from that business day to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  What a fantastic way to enjoy some good food while helping a great charitable institution!

You can also go online at any time and make a personal donation or create your own chili pepper and pass it on to encourage others to donate.  Chili’s will even reward you for the donations you earn! Here’s an example of what your donations (and Chili’s donations) go toward:

So, if you will be dining out on Monday, go to Chili’s – you get fed; children get lifesaving help!  It’s a win-win situation!  And, don’t forget to share this information with others so we can maximize the donation!

**If you know of an easy, free/inexpensive way to help a charity, please let us know at; together, we can all do our part to help others**
