Five-year-old raises $800 to help local children
TALLAHASSEE, Fla., July 27, 2011—Children’s Home Society of Florida’s North Central Division received a $800 donation from local 5-year-old Michael “Mikey” Rubin, who raised the money during a two-week independent read-a-thon.
With a heart to help less fortunate children, Mikey contacted businesses and individuals throughout the country to sponsor his read-a-thon, during which he read 50 books in two weeks to raise the funds.
“When we heard about Mikey’s fundraising project and learned of his desire to help other children, we were thrilled,” says Sean Pittman, Children’s Home Society of Florida Board Chair. “Mikey’s donation will directly help children in need, and we hope his heart for philanthropy continues to grow.”
Pittman accepted the $800 donation at the local Children’s Home Society of Florida office. The money will benefit the adoption program at Children’s Home Society of Florida to help create forever families for children in need.
